HELPING HANDS FOOD PANTRY
The Helping Hands Food Pantry of the Second Baptist Church Southwest (SBCSW), District Heights, Maryland, is open to serve the local community twice a month —- 2nd and 4th Saturdays from 8:00 am until 10:00 am.
Following the Center for Disease Control safety practices against COVID-19, all Pantry volunteers are COVID screened, provided personal protection equipment, and directed to stay socially distant.
The Pantry volunteers off-load the bulk food deliveries from the Capital Area Food Bank on the Friday before the Pantry is open to serve. On that same day, Pantry volunteers pack grocery boxes with the delivered food.
On the next day, the drive-thru Pantry is open to serve the community. Pantry volunteers place the packed grocery boxes in each client’s car from the church parking lot.
Students volunteering at any of the Pantry service events will be given community service credit, if requested.
